1601 ET -- McDonald's is one of the most mentioned companies in the U.S. across all news items in the past 12 hours, according to Factiva data. McDonald's shares were down 2.8% after a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention update about an E.coli outbreak linked to Quarter Pounders. The number of reported cases rose to 75 from 49 since Tuesday, which was when the CDC first informed the public about the problem. Of the 61 people for whom information was available, the number of hospitalizations rose to 22 from 10. The Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday preliminary information showed that slivered onions were a likely source of contamination. Dow Jones & Co. owns Factiva. (josh.beckerman@wsj.com)
