Kairos and X-Energy are proposing to use TRISO fuel, which is coated in carbon and ceramic-based materials. "Big Tech Is Paving the Way for a Nuclear Breakthrough -- Heard on the Street," at 7 a.m. on Oct. 31, incorrectly said the fuel is coated with TRISO. Alternative coolants typically have much higher boiling points than water, which means reactors can operate in a low-pressure environment that prevents ruptures. The earlier version said the low-pressure environment prevents the fuel from exploding.
