SITC International's (HKG:1308) unit SITC Shipowning Group has exercised an option to have two container vessels constructed by Huanghai Shipbuilding for a total of around $58 million, a Tuesday bourse filing said.

The vessels, which comprise two 1,800 TEU container vessels with deadweight tonnage of around 24,000 tons, are expected to be constructed on or before June 30, 2027, and Aug. 31, 2027.

The company had, on June 29, procured Huanghai Shipbuilding to construct four container vessels, with the option of having six further vessels built in the future.

Shares of the shipping company closed over 1% lower on Tuesday.
