Air Canada is scheduled to report its earnings for the third quarter on Friday. Here's what you need to know.

REVENUE: According to FactSet, revenue is expected to decline to 6.08 billion Canadian dollars (US$4.37 billion) from C$6.34 billion a year earlier.

ADJUSTED EARNINGS PER SHARE: Analysts peg this figure at C$1.62 a share.

Shares rose 2.4% in the third-quarter period, and are currently trading at C$18.80.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

LABOR CHALLENGES: Investors will be keen to know the effects of the labor disputes in the quarter. National Bank of Canada's Cameron Doerksen says there will be some strike threat-related noise in the third- and fourth-quarter results for the Canadian flagship airline. "Given the uncertainty for passengers, Air Canada undoubtedly saw some book-away in the weeks ahead of the potential work stoppage as well as some costs related to re-booking," he says in a report.

CAPACITY: Capacity growth has been decelerating and this could have positive effects on yield, Doerksen says. This might be more evident in the third quarter, but Air Canada could disclose some details of the trends so far in the current quarter.

HOLIDAY TRENDS: Observers will want to know if there is any indication of bookings ahead of the key holiday periods.
