Boeing (NYSE:BA) and European rival Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) will each receive part of a multi-billion-dollar order for long-haul planes from Taiwan’s China Airlines, Reuters reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The carrier, which also is considering a purchase of freighter planes, has been weighing Boeing's 777X and the Airbus A350-1000 to replace a fleet of 10 Boeing 777-300ERs and to expand capacity.
China Airlines may order as many as 20 passenger planes, split almost equally between the two plane giants. The total value of the order would be about $4 billion with customary discounts, Reuters reported, citing data from a consulting firm.
