Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has reportedly inked a deal with News Corp's (NASDAQ:NWS) HarperCollins to train its artificial intelligence models with the publisher's nonfiction titles, according to Bloomberg.
Microsoft plans to use the information for a new model it has yet to announce, Bloomberg reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.
It marks the latest deal between big tech companies and publishers, as large language models require ever-growing quantities of high-quality data. News Corp publications have struck several major deals.
Microsoft-backed OpenAI reached a $250M agreement with News Corp's Wall Street Journal back in May. OpenAI has also signed deals with the Financial Times, Axel Springer and Dotdash Meredith (NASDAQ:IAC).
Early this year, Google (GOOG)(GOOGL) reached a $60M deal with Reddit (NYSE:RDDT), which allows the search giant to train its AI models with a plethora of subreddits.
These deals seem to symbolize a taming of the Wild West period of the AI revolution, following a series of lawsuits and complaints by publishers over AI models scraping data without providing proper compensation.
