Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) edged up 0.1%.

US benchmark stock indexes were higher after midday Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 reaching record highs in the session.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each fell about 1.8%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were mixed, with the latter edging higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) advanced 3.3%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) rose 1.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 1.1%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dipped 1.1%.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 2.9%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 2.9%. Natural gas rose 6.9%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) added 6.6%.

Gold was down 3.1% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 2.9%. Silver fell 3.7%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 3.6% lower.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also rose.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) gained 1.1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) advanced.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.5%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also climbed. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 1.6%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.2%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also advanced.
