TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has officially commenced construction on the Ciliwung Water Treatment Plant (IPA) in Pejaten Timur Village, South Jakarta. This project aims to fully meet the city’s need for clean water by 2030.

Jakarta Secretary Marullah Matali said that the plant will be built on a 2,000-square-meter plot of land. With a planned capacity of 200 liters per second, it is projected to serve 15,000 households or approximately 90,000 individuals.

“Our target is to complete this project within 18 months to meet the water needs of five villages, including Pejaten Timur, Pengadegan, Rawajati, Kalibata, and Duren Tiga,” Marullah said in a written statement on Monday, November 25, 2024.

He mentioned that the government is committed to providing universal access to clean water, a fundamental human right essential for both daily life and long-term health. The Ciliwung Water Treatment Plant is expected to be operational by May 2026, bringing significant benefits to the local community.

“I want to emphasize the importance of transforming people's behavior from using groundwater to utilizing the more reliable and higher-quality piped clean water,” Marullah remarked.

In addition to supporting environmental sustainability, Marullah said the project aims to improve public health. The Jakarta Provincial Government is collaborating with PAM Jaya, a regional public company, to deliver clean water services to the city's residents.
