1321 ET - Simon Property Group says the holiday shopping season got off to a remarkably strong start. Visits to its portfolio of malls, outlet centers and mixed-used destinations were up 6.4% over the holiday weekend compared with last year. Malls performed the best out of Simon's portfolio, with visits up 7.1% year-over-year. "Popular brands throughout our portfolio reported double-digit sales increases over the weekend compared to last year," CEO David Simons says. "Coast to coast, we saw lines prior to opening and throughout the day at many of our centers across the country." (connor.hart@wsj.com)
