Ameresco (AMRC) said Monday that its newly-formed joint venture with Republic Services (RSG) started commercial operations at a facility that processes landfill gas into renewable natural gas in Edwardsville, Illinois.
The plant, located at Republic Services' Roxana landfill site, uses previously flared landfill gas to create pipeline-quality renewable natural gas, the company said, adding it is designed to process 6,000 standard cubic feet per minute of raw landfill gas.
The facility is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 82,000 metric tons per year, Ameresco said.
