MTU Aero Engines appointed Johannes Bussmann as its next chief executive to succeed Lars Wagner, who is set to leave the German company to become head of Airbus's commercial-aircraft business.
The aircraft-engine manufacturer said late Tuesday that Bussmann, an aviation industry veteran who is currently chief executive of German industrial inspector Tuev Sued, will assume his new role in the near future. Bussmann's appointment will be effective with the resignation of Wagner, the company said.
MTU in late October said Wagner wouldn't extend his mandate, which runs until the end of 2025, and Airbus named him chief executive of its core commercial-aircraft business.
Bussmann has been CEO of Tuev Sued since early 2023 and was previously head of Lufthansa Technik, the German carrier group's maintenance business, for seven years.
Tuev Sued separately said Tuesday that Bussmann wouldn't extend his contract as CEO, which runs until the end of 2025, after accepting MTU's offer to return to the aviation industry.
"After two years of extremely interesting work for Tuev Sued, I have decided to take on a leading position in aviation technology as chairman of the board of management of MTU Aero Engines in the course of the coming year," Bussmann said.
