0839 GMT - Germany's DAX and MDAX fall after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz lost a no-confidence vote. The MDAX index of mid-cap companies falls 0.3%, while the larger DAX is down 0.2%. Year to date, the MDAX has fallen 3.8%, while the DAX has soared 21% and remains near its record high despite the current economic and political challenges. On Monday, Scholz's government tabled a no-confidence vote deliberately to bring forward the election date, which is now expected in February, Deutsche Bank analysts write. The conservative CDU/CSU bloc has developed a clear lead in the opinion polls, the analysts write. The MDAX is at 26104.7 and the DAX is at 20281. (adam.whittaker@wsj.com)
