TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the 2024 National Christmas Celebration at the Indonesia Arena in the Gelora Bung Karno Complex, Jakarta, on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
“President Prabowo is expected to join leaders from various ministries and state institutions, along with leaders from the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI) and the Protestant Church in Indonesia (PGI), as well as prominent interfaith figures,” stated Thomas Djiwando, General Chairperson of the 2024 National Christmas Committee, during a press conference held at the KWI Building in Jakarta on Monday, December 23, 2024.
According to him, the Christmas celebration is open to the public, with an estimated attendance of 12,000 people. The committee will also provide designated areas outside the Indonesia Arena with large screens and audio systems to accommodate those unable to attend the main event.
The theme for this year's celebration is "Let Us Go to Bethlehem," inspired by Luke Chapter 2, verse 15 of the Bible. In keeping with this theme, the Christmas celebration committee has undertaken various social and ecological service initiatives, focusing on communities facing economic and physical limitations in regions throughout Indonesia.
“Social and humanitarian services have been implemented in areas such as Timika in Central Papua Province and Asmat in South Papua Province,” said Thomas.
Furthermore, the committee has conducted a series of social and ecological service actions, including environmental conservation efforts in Muara Gembong, Bekasi Regency, and humanitarian aid for victims of floods and landslides in Sukabumi Regency and the eruption of Mount Lewotobi in East Nusa Tenggara.
