NEW YORK, Dec 27 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The onetime Citi chair and Time Warner CEO, dead at 76, was a beloved Mr. Fixit. He earned the reputation from finance to philanthropy despite backing two M&A disasters for the ages. In a world that rewards hard-charging executives, he carved out a place for humility and warmth.

CONTEXT NEWS

Richard Parsons, the chairman of Citigroup from 2009 to 2012 and chief executive of Time Warner from 2002 to 2007, died on Dec. 26, at age 76.

Parsons also once led Dime Bancorp, served as interim CEO of the Los Angeles Clippers and briefly was interim chairman at CBS. He sat on the boards of investment bank Lazard, cosmetics company Estee Lauder and multiple cultural organizations such as the Apollo Theater.

In 2015, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer.
