Steris said the trial against its Isomedix subsidiary was dismissed and will be rescheduled for a later date.

The Irish medical-device company said the case, which began on Dec. 4, was declared a mistrial on Friday at the plaintiff's request after the dismissal of a juror reduced the jury to fewer than twelve.

The trial was set to address a claim that ethylene-oxide emissions from a sterilization facility in Waukegan, Illinois--which Isomedix owned and operated from 2005 to 2008--caused personal injury.

The Illinois court will schedule the case for retrial at a later date, the company said.

On Nov. 7, Steris disclosed that it was facing hundreds of lawsuits alleging harm arising from its use of ethylene oxide in the sterilization of medical devices.

"Isomedix intends to continue to vigorously defend against [the] allegations," it said.
