T-Mobile US has hired a new chief operating officer from Deutsche Telekom, the company's largest shareholder.
The cell phone carrier said Monday that Srinivasan Gopalan will take over the role March 1 and lead the company's technology initiatives and go-to-market operations for both its consumer and business groups.
Gopalan most recently served as managing director of Telekom Deutschland, a German telecommunications company owned by Deutsche Telekom, which in turn owns more than 50% of T-Mobile US.
The new operations chief will be paid a base salary of $1 million a year and is entitled to at least $2 million in short-term cash incentives based on performance goals, said T-Mobile. He is also eligible for a one-time $2 million sign-on payment, the company added.
Gopalan will report directly to Chief Executive Mike Sievert, who had served as COO until he succeeded CEO John Legere in 2020.
