TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto visited the Rajghat Memorial in New Delhi, India, to perform a wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday, January 25, 2025. This activity is part of Prabowo's state visit to India.
As quoted by the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo arrived at the Rajghat Memorial, the crematorium of Mahatma Gandhi, accompanied by two Indonesian students studying in India. Prabowo then laid a wreath as a tribute to the great figure of India's independence struggle.
The head of state then led a solemn procession around Mahatma Gandhi's grave. Prabowo also scattered flowers and observed a moment of silence as a symbol of deep respect.
After the procession, Prabowo wrote a message and signed the guest book. "Mahatma Gandhi was a great leader, a great teacher, a great inspiration for all humanity. He has inspired me to fight for justice, freedom, and human dignity. May his soul rest in peace and may his teachings remain eternal," the president wrote.
Prabowo visited India from January 23 to 26, 2025 for a state visit and to be the chief guest at India's 76th Republic Day on Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was accompanied by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Communications and Digital Meutya Hafid, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to New Delhi Ina Krisnamurthi.
