0902 GMT - Taiwan and Korean equity markets could face greater near-term pressure due to a breakthrough by Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, Goldman Sachs analysts say in a research note. Among Asian markets, Taiwan and Korea have the greatest concentration of AI hardware, while China is most exposed to AI applications. GS sees an emerging shift in AI market leadership from chip and infrastructure companies to application developers. As a result, China may be the primary beneficiary due to its AI development and diverse coverage of AI software and applications, followed by Korea, the analysts add. Overall, GS views DeepSeek's developments as supportive for Asian equities, as low-cost, high-performance AI models could improve productivity and boost corporate earnings in the long run.
