Insiders At Public Service Enterprise Group Sold US$5.6m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Many Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (NYSE:PEG) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Public Service Enterprise Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Executive VP & Chief Legal Officer, Tamara Linde, for US$1.5m worth of shares, at about US$80.26 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$83.47, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 22% of Tamara Linde's holding.
