Hello and welcome back to our coverage of the Antoinette Lattouf v ABC trial in the Federal Court.

I am Calum Jaspan, and today it’s day five of the proceedings, which just so happens to be the same length of time Lattouf was employed to fill in as a casual presenter on ABC Radio Sydney in December 2023. Proceedings will get under way at 9.30am AEDT.

Lattouf was sacked three days in, and has since claimed she was unlawfully terminated, which is where we find ourselves now.

So far we’ve heard both Lattouf and the ABC’s arguments, as well as lengthy cross-examinations of both Lattouf herself and the broadcaster’s outgoing managing director David Anderson.

Today’s proceedings will be consumed by outgoing content chief Chris Oliver-Taylor’s cross-examination.

Oliver-Taylor, who resigned from the ABC last month, has been positioned by Lattouf’s team as one of three key decision makers in her allegedly unlawful termination, alongside former chair Ita Buttrose and David Anderson.

The ABC says Oliver-Taylor was the sole decision maker, a view reaffirmed by Anderson on Thursday. “He’s made a decision here for which I don’t know any of the details,” Anderson said, recounting the moment he was informed Lattouf would be taken offair.

While Buttrose was scheduled to appear as a witness today, she is now likely to be cross-examined early next week.

Yesterday was mostly dominated by outgoing managing director David Anderson continuing in the witness box.

After revisiting several posts and public comments made by senior on-air ABC figures, Anderson told the court he became concerned the content on Lattouf’s social media feeds added up to antisemitism.

He said hiring Lattouf was an error of judgement by former ABC Radio executive Steve Ahern, given the partisan nature of her views on the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Late in the afternoon, we heard from then-acting manager of ABC Radio Sydney Mark Spurway, after a slight schedule change, which saw us through to the end of today.
