Expedia 4Q Earnings Rise on Bookings Growth

Expedia Group's profit and revenue rose in the fourth quarter as bookings increased across segments.

The Seattle online travel agency on Thursday posted net income of $299 million, or $2.20 a share, in the three months ended Dec. 31, up fro $132 million, or 92 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were $2.39, ahead of the $1.63 forecast by analysts, according to FactSet. Revenue rose 10% to $3.18 billion, ahead of the $3.07 billion forecast by analysts.

Bookings grew in all three of Expedia's core consumer brands. Revenue from the company's business-to-business segment increased 21%.

The number of booked nights grew 12% in the fourth quarter and 9% for the full year. Total gross bookings rose 13% for the quarter.

Shares of Expedia rose 7.3% to $185.20 in after-hours trading.
