TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said the UAE’s state-owned energy company, Masdar, has agreed to boost investment cooperation in renewable energy with the Indonesian government.

The deal was discussed in a meeting between Minister Airlangga and Masdar’s CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Dubai, UAE.

During the meeting, Airlangga and the Emirati CEO reportedly discussed cooperation in the renewable energy sector that was previously established between the UAE and Indonesia, including the Cirata floating solar plant.

The Cirata floating PV power plant is located in Purwakarta, West Java, and is claimed to be the largest in Southeast Asia.

"The Cirata floating solar power plant brings new hope for Indonesia to achieve sustainable energy. This cooperation shows Masdar's commitment to supporting the development of renewable energy in Indonesia," said Airlangga, quoted from an official statement on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

Airlangga explained that the project is being carried out by Masdar through cooperation with state-owned electricity company PT PLN, commencing operations in November 2023. With a capacity of 192 Megawatt Peak (MWp), the Cirata solar power plant is said to be able to supply electricity to 50 thousand households.

Airlangga stated that this meeting also discussed enhancing cooperation between PLN and Masdar with the goal of expanding the Cirata solar power plant's capacity in the next phase. With a reservoir area of about 6,200 hectares, Airlangga said the potential development of the Cirata plant could reach over 1,000 MWp.

The bolstered cooperation has already begun through the signing of the Cirata Phase II Joint Development Study Agreement last year.

Furthermore, Masdar has also collaborated with PLN and Pertamina in several renewable energy projects involving solar, wind, green hydrogen, and geothermal energy.

Masdar CEO, Mohamed Jameel, said that Masdar, together with PLN and Pertamina, is currently exploring joint projects in support of the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). "We hope to complete the development of clean energy in IKN with a capacity of 200 MW soon," said Mohamed Jameel.
