--Italy's tax authority accused Amazon of evading 1.2-billion euros ($1.26 billion) in VAT payments, the Financial Times reports, citing unnamed sources.
--The claim is connected to goods from China and other non-European Union countries bought on the U.S. e-commerce giant's platform between 2019 and 2021 as the EU was in transition to a new process for taxing online sales, the FT reports. Amazon was hit with a total 3 billion-euro claim including the original tax, interest and penalties, according to the FT.
--Amazon declined the FT's request for comment.
