Consumer companies fell sharply amid doubts about the outlook for tariffs and inflation.

Consumer companies are repositioning their offerings based on perceived cultural shifts.

Dutch brewing giant Heineken is adding to its suite of nonalcoholic beers as temperance returns to fashion. Similarly, Coca Cola and Pepsi are launching their own version of popular sodas marketed as digestive aids.

Hershey Chief Executive Michele Buck said the chocolatier was adjusting to a long-term scenario of elevated cocoa prices.

"We believe the humanization of pets will continue leading pet parents to treat their pets more like members of the family," bolstering sales of premium pet food, said General Mills Jeff Harmening.
