Reith to take on interim CEO role as Bains exits Volante

By Rebecca Delaney

Feb 18 - (The Insurer) - Founder Talbir Bains has confirmed to The Insurer that he is set to step down as CEO of Volante Global, with chairman Martin Reith to assume the role on an interim basis.

Bains has led the firm for eight years, during which time he oversaw the formation of Syndicate 1699 and the launch of its casualty/marine and energy treaty-focused platform Volante Re, as well as the expansion of the international business and a strategic partnership with Acrisure.

Reith will take over Bains' responsibilities as interim CEO. Reith was appointed executive chairman late last year, at the same time the former Helios CEO was also named as advisor to Acrisure Re Corporate Advisory and Solutions.

Bains commented: “With the Volante business that I founded now in the stewardship of a top tier executive team, a family of two hundred colleagues located across 18 locations worldwide, robust sponsorship and support from our stakeholders and partners and an enabling ownership in Acrisure, it is now time for me to embark on a new chapter in this industry that I adore and whose people I am so fond of working alongside.”

This publication has previously reported on the build-out of Volante Global's executive leadership team, including the appointment of SiriusPoint’s Samantha Giles as head of planning and performance, and QBE Re’s Tom Chivers as CUO for long-tail D&F in October.

Last year also saw Arvin Rajendram (formerly MS Amlin) promoted to head of underwriting governance and controls in May, with Scor’s former head of UK hub reserving Rachael Walker also joining in May and taking on the position of head of reserving.

Former Lloyd’s underwriting manager Kirstie Keate has appointed as short-tail CUO, with Stuart Dale and David Martin hired to lead Syndicate 1699’s global casualty and marine treaty books, respectively.
