Megawati to Jakarta's New Governor and Deputy: 'Follow President's Directives'

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno revealed the message from the Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Soekarnoputri, for his administration and Pramono Anung in Jakarta.

Rano stated that the fourth former president urged them not to ignore President Prabowo Subianto's instructions. According to Megawati, regional heads are representatives of the central government.

"Do not ignore the President's directives, that is the main task," said Rano Karno mimicking Megawati's words when met at Pramono's residence in the Cipete Selatan area, Cilandak, South Jakarta on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

According to Rano Karno, Megawati instructed that although the Jakarta Provincial Government has its own programs, Pramono Anung and Rano Karno must also oversee central government programs to completion.

"The goal is to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people, that is the instruction from the chairwoman," he said.

The pair leading Jakarta, supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), won the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election against the Coalition of the Indonesian People's Struggle (KIM) Plus Ridwan Kamil-Suswono and the independent pair Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardhana.
