Google to Be Hit With EU Antitrust Charges Over Search Results, Reuters Says, Citing Sources

--Alphabet's Google will face formal charges from the European Commission under the bloc's digital antitrust rules, Reuters reports, citing three people familiar with the matter.

--The commission started investigating Google in March 2024 over concerns the company is violating the Digital Markets Act, which bans tech giants from favoring their own products and services over rivals' alternatives.

--Charges will come after Google's proposed changes to its search results display failed to convince regulators its flagship service is in-line with the rules, Reuters says, citing the same sources.

--The individuals said that formal charges relate to the commission's scrutiny of Google's search results, which rival price comparison companies have criticized for showing Google's own offerings like Google Shopping and Hotels over their websites' results, according to Reuters.
