IM Motors, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of SAIC Motor Corp, has shipped the first batch of LS6 electric SUVs (sport utility vehicles) to Thailand, joining Xpeng's (NYSE: XPEV) increased efforts to expand globally.
The LS6, rebranded as the IM6 in Thailand, will officially go on sale at the Thailand auto show on March 24, IM Motors announced yesterday on Weibo.
"In 2025, IM Motors' presence in overseas markets will be accelerated to bring more intelligent mobility options to users worldwide," it wrote on Weibo.
In a February 22 report, local media outlet Yiche said the LS6 will be sold under IM Motors' sister brand MG, under the name MG IM6 in Thailand.
IM Motors' Weibo yesterday made no mention of the change.
The move by IM Motors came a day after Xpeng shipped 300 right-hand-drive X9 MPVs (multi-purpose vehicle) to Thailand, beginning the process of bringing its highest-value model to the international markets.
The IM LS6 was initially launched in China on October 12, 2023. On September 26, 2024, IM Motors launched the updated IM LS6 in China.
The model is currently offered in five variants in China, with starting prices of RMB 239,900 ($33,100), RMB 262,900, RMB 277,900, RMB 277,900, and RMB 302,900 respectively.
The model is a Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y competitor with a length, width and height of 4,910 mm, 1,988 mm and 1,669 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,960 mm.
It is available in single-motor and dual-motor variants with battery capacities of 75 kWh to 100 kWh and a CLTC range of 625 km to 802 km.
The facelifted Model Y, which went on sale in China on January 10, has a length, width and height of 4,797 mm, 1,920 mm and 1,624 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
The Tesla SUV comes with battery pack options of 62.5 kWh, 78.4 kWh and CLTC ranges of 593 km and 719 km respectively.
Other models on sale from IM Motors include the IM L6 sedan, IM L7 sedan, and IM LS7 SUV.
