Netflix (NFLX) is poised to "overtake" Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) YouTube in total video revenue this year, TechTarget's (TTGT) technology research and advisory unit, Omdia, said.

Projections for 2025 show Netflix is pulling ahead, reaching $46.2 billion, the research outfit said early Friday, while adding $43.2 billion from subscriptions and $3.2 billion from advertising will drive the growth.

Meanwhile, YouTube will probably generate $45.6 billion, with $36 billion from advertising and $9.6 billion from YouTube Premium, according to Omdia.

YouTube led the market with $42.5 billion in revenue, while Netflix generated $39.2 billion in 2024.

Netflix will likely have over 340 million paying subscribers this year, while YouTube continues to dominate in scale, reaching over 2 billion users globally, Omdia said. "As the streaming landscape evolves, Netflix's growing ad-supported model and subscriber base could reshape the competitive dynamics of digital video revenue."

Netflix and Alphabet did not immediately respond to MTNewswires' out-of-hours request for comment on Omdia's report.
