J.Jill named Mary Ellen Coyne as its chief executive, effective May 1, succeeding Claire Spofford, who will retire at the end of April.
Coyne has more than three decades of retail experience, the women's apparel company said Thursday. She most recently held the top role at J.McLaughlin, where she revitalized the brand and drove significant sales growth, according to J.Jill.
Prior, Coyne, 59 years old, held various roles at Ralph Lauren, Victoria's Secret, Gap and Ann Taylor.
In the role, Coyne will receive an annual base salary of $1 million, according to a Securities and Exchange filing. She will additionally be eligible to receive an annual cash bonus worth up to $1 million, a nearly $1.8 million one-time sing-on cash bonus paid one month after her start date and a $90,000-per-year housing stipend for the first three years in the role, among other benefits.
Coyne will additionally fill the vacancy on the J.Jill's board following Spofford's retirement, the company said.
