1431 ET - Recent data shows the airline industry is still one of haves and the have-nots, UBS analysts say in a research note. So far in 1Q, signs are pointing to notable strength for United and Alaska Air, but weakness for Southwest, Jet Blue and American, they write. The analysts used data from Bloomberg's Second Measure analytics unit that aggregates credit- and debit-card purchases, as well as UBS's own measuring of app usage, to track traffic trends of various airlines. United has said it is benefiting from continued demand for international travel and more corporate fliers, while Jet Blue recently commented that demand drop off during non-peak periods is steeper now than in prior quarters, the analysts say.
