Britain's Information Commissioner's Office said Monday that it is investigating how TikTok, Reddit (RDDT), and Imgur protect the privacy of their child users in the UK.

The privacy watchdog said the probe focuses on concerns about social media platforms using data from children's online activities to fuel recommendation systems, potentially exposing young users to inappropriate or harmful content.

The Information Commissioner's Office said it is explicitly examining how TikTok handles the personal information of 13- to 17-year-olds to suggest content. It is also reviewing Imgur and Reddit's use of child data and age assurance measures.

"If we find there is sufficient evidence that any of these companies have broken the law, we will put this to them and obtain their representations before reaching a final conclusion," the Information Commissioner's Office said in a statement.

TikTok, Reddit, and Imgur did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
