Exclusive: Cogent continues aviation build-out with Tysers’ Dawson and Forester

By Michael Jones

March 3 - (The Insurer) - London-based broker Cogent International has continued the build-out of its aviation division with the transfer of an Eddy Dawson- and Andrew Forester-run book of business from Tysers, three senior sources told The Insurer.

Tysers CEO Tom Wilson confirmed that the transaction completed on March 1, while two sources inside Cogent said Dawson and Forester officially began their new roles at the company on the same date.

In a statement to this publication, Wilson said: “Recently Tysers entered into a commercial arrangement with Cogent to transfer a small, specialist book of aviation business, run by Eddy Dawson and Andrew Forester, to them. The sale of this business completed on March 1 2025.”

Wilson said that Tysers will continue to build out in its core aviation business areas including airlines, general aviation and aerospace.

Dawson has joined Cogent after a decade at Tysers, most recently as director of aviation. Forester brings more than three decades of aviation insurance experience to his new role.

The book transfer has continued the recent strengthening of Cogent’s aviation division.

In February this publication exclusively reported that the broker had hired four members of Lockton’s aviation unit. The quartet comprised former head of aviation Tim Liddiard, client relationship manager Andrew Cameron, executive director Nigel Baker and senior vice president Doug Ogilvie.

The start of 2025 has been a busy period for aviation broking talent movement.

In January this publication reported that UIB’s Miles Taffs is set to join Liberty Specialty Markets at the end of Q1, with Marek Ambrozewski appointed as his successor. Lockton also appointed Insurwave’s Mark Costin to lead its aviation team.

One senior aviation broking source said there was nothing specific driving the volume of moves at the start of 2025.
