Best Buy Expects Upgrade, Replace Cycle to Spur PCs, Tablets -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1011 ET - Best Buy expects growth in computing, including tablets, to be driven by consumers who need to replace and upgrade their products, says CEO Corie Barry. The Minneapolis consumer-electronics store chain executive expects this will be helped by both the end of the Windows 10 product support in October, as well as ongoing enhancements in artificial intelligence and the release of new AI features. Higher prices for such goods could crimp consumer demand, however. Barry on an earnings call notes that price increases for American consumers are highly likely as vendors throughout Best Buy's supply chain parse through the latest set of tariffs enacted by President Trump. Shares tumble 13% to $75.39, part of a broader selloff in response to the tariffs. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
