0601 GMT - Nomura economists estimate that Japan's final wage hike this year could reach 5.26%. The average wage increase demanded by unions in Japan's 2025 spring wage negotiations stands at 6.09%, slightly higher than the 5.85% in 2024, the economists say. Nomura had initially forecast a wage hike similar to that of 2024, in line with consensus expectations. "Based on the wage hike demands for 2025 and developments over the past two years, we estimate an ultimate wage hike of 5.26%," Nomura says. Attention now shifts to company responses, with the first set of announcements expected on March 14. It remains to be seen to what extent companies will meet these demands and whether major firms will offer wage hikes exceeding those in 2024, the economists add. (monica.gupta@wsj.com)
