--Walmart has asked some Chinese suppliers for major price reductions as it looks to shift the burden of President Trump's tariffs, but it's facing strong pushback from firms in the country, said Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.
--Some suppliers have been asked to lower their prices by as much as 10% per round of tariffs, according to the report. So far, few have agreed, it added, given their razor-thin margins due to the retailer's strategy of procuring goods cheaply.
--For some suppliers, any reduction greater than 2% would see them make a loss, said Bloomberg. Others have had their own upstream vendors refuse requests to cut prices more than 3%, forcing manufacturers to consider purchasing some parts from Vietnam, raising concerns that lower prices will come at the expense of product quality, it added.
--A Walmart spokeswoman said the company will continue to work with suppliers to keep prices as low as possible for customers.
