Burlington Sees 2025 Sales Improving After Soft Start -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
03-07

1243 ET - Burlington Stores kept comparable sales guidance in fiscal 1Q more conservative than its full-year outlook after seeing some unexpected weakness at the start of the quarter in February, CEO Michael O'Sullivan says on a call with analysts. The softness is consistent with what other retailers have been reporting, he says, and 1Q is typically the most volatile and unpredictable of the year. The weakest trends were seen in the Northwest and the Midwest, which saw unfavorable weather in February, and sales picked up as weather improved, the CEO says. The timing of tax refunds could also be a factor, O'Sullivan says. And there is a risk that external favors, an apparent nod to trade tensions pushed by the White House, are having an effect as well, he says. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
