Industrial stocks sank as new tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China threatened manufacturers' long supply chains.
Aerospace companies like Boeing and Textron slumped. Builders FirstSource sank as lumber futures seesawed on volatility introduced by the Canada tariffs.
Airlines suffered in a move that appeared to track tariffs' drag on the consumer economy. Even Southwest, a domestic carrier, posted a sizable decline.
