TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lion Air, Indonesia's largest private airline, has entered a five-year partnership with Sanad, a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company PJSC (Mubadala) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Through this agreement, Sanad will provide comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the V2500 engines powering Lion Air's Airbus A320 fleets, including aircraft operated by Batik Air and Super Air Jet.

The agreement was signed by Sanad's Managing Director and Group CEO Mansoor Janahi and Batam Aero Technics Deputy CEO Dennis Kirana in the presence of the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia and ASEAN Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem al-Dhaheri in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Janahi stated that the new agreement with Lion Air further strengthens Sanad's global market presence and solidifies Abu Dhabi's position as a leading center for innovative solutions.

He said that this partnership is a new addition to Sanad's continuously growing and expanding customer base in Indonesia's aviation sector while also reinforcing the focus on Southeast Asia as the world's fastest-growing aviation market.

"More importantly, this reflects the successful relationship between the UAE and Indonesia in advancing economic and industrial cooperation," Janahi said in his official statement.

Dennis Kirana mentioned that Sanad's expertise and capability in maintaining V2500-powered fleets make them a perfect partner.

"This partnership is crucial to ensure the sustainability, safety, and reliability of our V2500 fleets, which is vital to our operations," he said.

This agreement marks the increasingly close economic and aviation ties between the UAE and Indonesia. The deal directly supports the UAE-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to increase bilateral trade to US$10 billion per year by 2026.

The core of this partnership is the V2500 engines produced by International Aero Engines, which have been the backbone of aviation since entering the market in 1989. In 2023, over 5,280 V2500 engines were in operation worldwide.

Lion Air is one of the largest airline operators in Southeast Asia, currently boasting a fleet of over 310 aircraft.

This new deal is expanded to include MRO services for V2500 engines used by Super Air Jet and Batik Air, both subsidiaries of Lion Air. Together, these airlines operate more than 65 aircraft powered by V2500 engines.

Sanad, on the other hand, has over 38 years of experience in aircraft engine maintenance and repair. Since 2012, Sanad has serviced more than 600 V2500 engines. Its extensive client base includes over 30 airlines and 10 strategic partners from the Middle East, Europe, Africa, America, and Asia.
