IHOP Owner Says Egg Costs Driving Up Food Inflation -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1119 ET - Dine Brands Global expects to see low- to mid-single-digit percentage inflation in food costs for 2025, which is primarily driven by skyrocketing egg prices in the wake of a bird flu outbreak, CFO Vance Chang says on a call with analysts. The IHOP owner also anticipates some headwinds on bacon and coffee, Chang says. Franchisees so far have not taken surcharges from higher egg prices, as the company's buying agent has been working to maintain egg availability at competitive prices, the CFO says. Dine Brands, which also owns Applebee's, is meanwhile seeing tailwinds on costs from chicken strips, chicken breast, turkey and ribs, Chang says. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
