Chorus (ASX:CNU, NZE:CNU) said the Commerce Commission's draft recommendation to deregulate copper services acknowledges that copper no longer meets the needs of consumers, who are shifting to advanced connectivity options such as wireless and satellite, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian and New Zealand bourses.

The Commission's draft report recommends removing regulations on copper voice and broadband services due to the widespread availability of alternatives, the filing said.

The company has seen a 21% decline in copper connections over the past year, and is on track to retire its copper network by 2030, the filing added.

The draft report is open for consultation until April 9, with the final report due by Dec. 31, the company said.
