Malaysia's Data-Center Sector Tipped to Keep Growing -- Market Talk

0124 GMT - Malaysia's data-center sector is set for continued growth, driven by steady inbound investments and rising AI infrastructure demand, CIMB Securities analyst Mak Hoy Ken says in a note. Despite uncertainties over U.S. AI chip policies and the sudden emergence of Chinese AI firm DeepSeek, Malaysia's strategic location and diplomatic balance keep it competitive as a regional data-center hub, she notes. With an estimated 1,313 MW pipeline of projects, construction opportunities could reach MYR23 billion-MYR29 billion over the next decade, she reckons. Major global tech firms are expanding their presence in Malaysia, while rising land costs in key areas are shifting developments to emerging regions like Negeri Sembilan, she adds. CIMB Securities stays overweight on Malaysia's construction sector, and advises investors to stick with Gamuda, IJM Corp. and Sunway Construction for data-center exposure.
