Stifel Financial recruited a former Raymond James Financial financial advisor team that oversaw $1.35 billion in client assets.

The Greer Financial Group joined Stifel in a new office in Macon, Ga. The advisors on the team are Hal Greer, Hal's brother George, Hal's daughter Maggie, Sheri Haugabrook, and Ryan Emory.

Hal Greer said they joined Stifel because its resources were the best fit for his team's practice and clients. "We've received a great deal of support from everyone here, all the way up to the C-suite, and we can't wait to take advantage of all Stifel has to offer," he said.

Greer, an industry veteran of 30 years, had been registered with Raymond James' employee broker-dealer and Morgan Keegan since 2005, according to BrokerCheck, a public database maintained by industry self-regulatory organization Finra. Raymond James bought Morgan Keegan in 2012.

George Greer joined Raymond James in 2021, having previously worked 19 years as a lawyer, according to his biography on Raymond James' website, which was still available on Friday. Maggie Greer registered with Raymond James in January.

The team also includes relationship manager Mai Kulkarni; senior registered client service associate Lois Renfroe; and senior client service associate Mary Charles Dunn.

A representative for Raymond James didn't respond to a request for comment.

Stifel's new hires may indicate its recruiting efforts are gaining some momentum this year following a slowdown in the fourth quarter. The St. Louis-based company recruited just eight financial advisors during the fourth quarter, including four "experienced" advisors with total trailing 12-month production of $8 million, the company said in January. Stifel attributed it to a seasonal slowdown and fierce competition for talent.
