General Motors (GM) has joined a pilot program of PG&E's (PCG) Pacific Gas and Electric unit to allow compatible GM electric vehicles to supply power back to homes during outages, the companies said Thursday.

The companies said customers in northern and central California who are enrolled in Pacific Gas and Electric's residential vehicle-to-everything pilot program can get up to $4,500 in incentives off the price of GM Energy home products that allow bidirectional charging.

With the help of charging data from the program, Pacific Gas and Electric and GM Energy will assess the potential for bidirectional technology to provide value to customers, support grid resiliency and help scale bidirectional technology programs in California, the companies said.
