IM Motors, the electric vehicle (EV) unit of SAIC Motor Corp, has officially begun its efforts to expand into overseas markets with the launch of its first model for local consumers in Thailand.

IM Motors launched the LS6 electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), rebranded locally as the IM6, at an event in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 18, according to a company announcement today.

The model is available in Thailand in two variants, Premium and Performance, with starting prices of 1,399,900 baht ($41,600) and 1,799,900 baht, respectively.

The Premium version is powered by a 75-kWh battery pack and the Performance version by a 100-kWh pack, with a range of 550 km and 634 km respectively.

The pricing is similar to that of 's (NYSE: XPEV) G6 SUV in Thailand and lower than that of 's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.

The IM LS6 was initially launched in China on October 12, 2023. On September 26, 2024, IM Motors launched an updated version of the IM LS6 in China.

The model is currently offered in five variants in China, with starting prices of RMB 239,900 ($33,170), RMB 262,900, RMB 277,900, RMB 277,900, and RMB 302,900, respectively.

The Model Y is currently offered in China in two versions starting at RMB 263,500 and RMB 313,500, respectively.

On February 24, IM Motors said it shipped the first batch of LS6 electric SUVs to Thailand.

Next, IM Motors will use the LS6 and L6 electric sedans as its global strategic models to enter the premium new energy vehicle (NEV) market in regions including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Northern Europe and the Middle East, it said today.
