Usually in the National Basketball League, the biggest rivalry is between the two teams. Not so at Sunday’s Illawarra Hawks versus Melbourne United final, where the more significant battle is over ownership of the league itself.
The current owner of the NBL is property billionaire Larry Kestelman, who also owns United. Oil tycoon and Donald Trump’s pick as the US’ next ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa, Jared Novelly, owns the Hawks.
