Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) will launch its ultra-long haul flights, dubbed "Project Sunrise," by early 2027, according to multiple media reports on Tuesday, citing the airline's Chief Executive Vanessa Hudson.
Speaking on the sidelines of an Airbus event, Hudson said the airline needs three aircraft to offer a daily service to New York from Sydney or to London from Sydney, Reuters reported.
The first of the 12 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft will be delivered at the end of 2026, according to a Financial Times report. Qantas needs to carry out local certification flights before opening the routes, Hudson said in the reports.
The Australian flagship carrier's shares were up 3% in recent Wednesday trade.
