Taiwan's justice ministry said China-headquartered Semiconductor Manufacturing International or SMIC (HKG:0981, SHA:688981) has set up a subsidiary in Taiwan disguising as a Samoan firm to attract Taiwanese tech talent.
SMIC was among a number of Chinese firms Taipei has been investigating for alleged illegal recruitment activities and masquerading as foreign entities which have allegedly been stealing talent and know-how, the ministry said Friday.
The ministry has sent deployed 180 staff to raid 11 companies on the island across 34 locations, and investigated 90 individuals.
