Homebuilders, Building Products Companies Anxious To Hear Tariff Details -- Market Talk

1028 ET - For homebuilders and building products companies, the impact of President Trump's reciprocal tariffs will depend on the details, BofA Securities says in a research note. Analysts Rafe Jadrosich and Shaun Calnan say homebuilders could face margin pressure from tariffs on Canadian lumber. While homebuilders successfully navigated lumber price volatility a few years back, the analysts believe builders will struggle to offset cost inflation this time given weaker demand and elevated housing inventory. Flooring manufacturer Mohawk Industries would benefit from tariffs on Europe covering ceramic tiles and those on Vietnam for luxury vinyl tile. But tariffs on Mexico are a headwind for Mohawk and appliance maker Whirlpool. "Manufacturers have announced price hikes to offset the 'dynamic trade policy', but we see risk that volumes could weaken in a difficult macro backdrop," say the analysts.
