Nintendo opened up its Switch 2 event on Wednesday with an even more in-depth preview of the newest Mario Kart game, showing users driving in new maps and off- road in a more open- world environment than the older game.
The company gave a sneak peek of the console in January, and investors have been waiting for more news since then. The suspense will end for real in early summer; the company said the Switch 2 will be coming on June 5, starting at $449.99.
"With its new features that expand the possibilities of gaming experiences, I truly believe that Nintendo Switch 2 is a leap forward in our journey of putting smiles on the faces of everyone that Nintendo touches," Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said in a news release.
At the January sneak peek, users could see that the Switch 2 was bigger than the original Switch. On Wednesday, Nintendo offered even more details, showing how the console is different than its predecessor. This includes the inclusion of a "C" button on the Joy-Con controllers that giver players the ability to chat with one another while playing either separately or together.
There's also a Switch 2 camera, which lets users videochat with each other while playing.
American depositary receipts of Nintendo were up 2.8% Wednesday.
